Yardwork

Tara and I have been slowly fixing up our yard this season so that we don't have to pull weeds every year when they get out of control. The hardest part of it all hasn't been the labor, but picking from the hundreds of plants available at the nursery. We've been having a little bit of trouble making up our minds so we're just going with the flow and planting what we like here and there.

One of the things that has helped us figure out what we want has been to really pay attention to other people's yards when we take Rand on walks or driving in our car.
Even taking pictures with my camera and bringing it to the nursery to try and track a plant down. We still have a lot of work to do, but it's been a really gratifying experience to see the transformation. I'll post more photos when we do other areas.

I spent Saturday morning and afternoon doing a ton of yard work, pulling up trees and bushes, laying down a weed screen, top soil and then mulch. Tara and I are slowly turning our yard into something respectable, and it's one of those things that makes us proud to be home owners. For us, the hardest part has been playing the role of landscape architect. There are literally hundreds of plants and trees to choose from at our local nursery, and we're having difficulty figuring out which to get and where to place them. We've been looking at a few books and some magazines and also watching a lot of This Old House recorded on Tivo for inspiration. Hopefully by the end of Summer we'll be done! I'll post pics of the progress as soon as it stops raining.
