House Warming BBQ

Adrien's House Warming Present

This weekend Kevin and I picked up a Weber Spirit 310 on behalf of a bunch of people for Adrien as a house warming gift. The instructions said it would take 30 minutes for one person to assemble, but it took Kevin and I an hour. Apparently he and I combined aren't up to the Weber standard of a person.

The Seattle Show

Wonderful Union and HADW

Last night a bunch of us from HADW attended the Seattle Show, an awards show to honor the best in advertising and design from–you guessed it–Seattle. Despite a "History of Seattle" lecture, and having to listen to countless sponsorship plugs and radio commercials, we managed to have a good time and earned a couple of Silvers for the Memory Serves and Census Complete sites we did for MyFamily.

I spent Saturday morning and afternoon doing a ton of yard work, pulling up trees and bushes, laying down a weed screen, top soil and then mulch. Tara and I are slowly turning our yard into something respectable, and it's one of those things that makes us proud to be home owners. For us, the hardest part has been playing the role of landscape architect. There are literally hundreds of plants and trees to choose from at our local nursery, and we're having difficulty figuring out which to get and where to place them. We've been looking at a few books and some magazines and also watching a lot of This Old House recorded on Tivo for inspiration. Hopefully by the end of Summer we'll be done! I'll post pics of the progress as soon as it stops raining.

Zerg Rush Pt. 2

Zerg Rush

The reason it took me five years to graduate from college instead of four, is coming out with a sequel.

Hittin' the Trees

Yesterday after work a few of us went up to Jefferson Golf Course in preparation for the Haircuts 4 Kids Guild Golf Tournament that we're playing in on Sunday. We fully intend to win with our collective 113 handicap.

Sneaker Freaker had some nice things to say about FWA. Nice to see two of my favorite things talking about each other!

50%

So far I've been able to ride on 4 out of a possible 8 days of bicycle commuting, which is sort of pathetic, but I anticipate being able to ride more frequently in the coming days. So far I've logged 42 miles (14 miles round trip to work), burning an estimated 1400 calories, saving myself $23.60 in driving costs (calculated using the AAA estimate of 56.2cents/mile). Gone are the days of being able to ride a "century" in a day, but hopefully this summer I'll get myself back into a condition that's close.

One Less Car...

This month is Bike to Work Month in Seattle. So I decided to participate with eleven other people here at HA to get off our gas guzzling asses and ride as much as possible to and from work. Here's my method of transportation this month — and hopefully the rest of the riding season.

For me, at the time of purchase it was a significant investment, but for the past seven years I couldn't be happier with the quality of the ride.

San Francisco

Back from San Francisco, recharged. Tara and I went down to celebrate her new job and to just get out of Seattle for a few days. I'm excited to get back to work as now we've got the go ahead to begin work on the new HA website, client workload permitting of course...
